The Cluster
The challenge of the clusters is to transfer the objectives of the sub-projects to an overarching level in order to contribute to the further development of digital teaching at Leuphana. The multi-level model, in which the clusters work on their focal points and network with each other, counteracts a fragmentation of the overall project with the overarching and interlinked working groups.
At the strategic level, technical and strategic mentors support the work of the clusters with their expertise. The coordination level, consisting of the cluster strategy group and the project’s strategic advisory board, reviews and steers the compatibility of the cluster goals with Leuphana’s strategic developments. At the operational level, the cluster development teams, which are made up of the sub-projects and involve colleagues from other projects and permanent structures at Leuphana as required, work on the long-term consolidation of the cluster objectives.
Digital teaching-learning innovation
The sub-projects in the Digital Teaching and Learning Innovation cluster focus on the development of innovative teaching content and formats through the use of digital tools and media. In recent months/years, the cluster has held various workshops to encourage experimentation with digital university teaching in the post-Covid society. In addition, the 10 Minute Digital Teaching lecture series created the space to present the interim results of the sub-projects to the university public. Project results were presented at a number of national and international conferences and scientific publications were prepared in order to have an impact beyond the university community. In order to secure individual results from the cluster’s activities in the long term, these are anchored in the Leuphana Teaching Service’s higher education didactic training program and discussed with practitioners in various exchange formats such as the Leuphana Salon.

Sub-projects within the cluster
Digital Literacy
The aim of the Digital Literacy cluster is to introduce digital literacy education and thus also to implement basic data literacy that enables students to assess statements and contexts in a self-determined, reflective and responsible manner in the age of digitality. To this end, the participants first develop a shared understanding of digital and data literacy and compile an overview of the various forms of digital and data literacy already taught at Leuphana. Building on this, recommendations on how digital literacy education can be further promoted will be drawn up and published over the course of the project.

Digital Internationalization
The aim of the Digital Internationalization Cluster is to cultivate a common understanding of digital internationalization among all stakeholders at Leuphana and thus establish digital internationalization in teaching at Leuphana as part of the general internationalization strategy. The relevance of physical stays abroad by students is not called into question. Instead, the cluster is testing teaching concepts to prepare students for a stay abroad or in terms of barrier-free internationalization. The experiences and developed solutions from the three sub-projects are bundled in the joint work in order to facilitate the development and implementation of digitally-supported international courses.
